In stunning mint condition, we have an extremely high end, Luxury Grade Japanese Army Officers Shin Gunto Sword by Noted 1st seat award winning swordsmith Kotani Kaneyoshi, rated Jo Saku…Superior. The blade is a masterpiece 27 21/32″ Gen Daito (hand made in the traditional method) completely hand forged from Tomanahaga Steel and water tempered in the ancient way. What makes this set up even more stunning is that the piece is still with the extremely rare full stem to stern leather combat cover…..that is a METAL SCABBARD with a full leather combat cover…you can see the fittings through the leather! To find a metal scabbard sword where even the scabbard is protected tells you this was a work of art to be protected from the rigors of the field.
You will also note that the sword was owned by an officer from one the the leading aristocratic families of Japan as it has the Katabami Kamon Mon the crest of several of the most elite Samurai Families including the Sakai and Tokugawa families. This crest is rendered in silver on the Tsuka. There is a very detailed description of this sword, its pedigree that comes with it and is included in the pictures, so I will let you read that.
