THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT AND WELL DOCUMENTED COLT MODEL 1905 PISTOL THAT WAS CARRIED IN THE PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION AND THE MEXICAN EXPEDITION. IN 96% EXCEPTIONAL FINISH FOR WHAT IT IS, WE HAVE AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF A VERY RARE 1905 COLT .45 AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH A HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT AND WELL DOCUMENTED HISTORY. FIRST LET ME SAY THE THE PISTOL IS IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION FOR A MODEL 1905 AND IT HAS AN EXCELLENT BORE. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES AND THE HAMMER STILL HAS THE CASE FINISH. AS YOU WELL KNOW, THE FINISH ON THESE COLTS IS FRAGILE AND TO FIND ONE THIS WELL TAKEN CARE OF OVER A PERIOD OF A HUNDRED PLUS YEARS IS JUST FANTASTIC! PART OF THE REASON THAT THIS GUN IS SO NICE IS THAT IT WAS ALWAYS A TREASURED FAMILY HEIRLOOM. THE PISTOL ONCE BELONGED TO GRANGER ADAMS, (WEST POINT 1876). IN 1907 COL ADAMS COMMANDED THE 5TH FIELD ARTILLERY REGT IN THE PHILIPPINES & MEXICO. THIS PISTOL WAS SENT TO HIM BY COLT’S AND USED BY HIM AS HIS SIDEARM FOR HIS SERVICE IN THE PHILIPPINES AND ALSO IN THE MEXICAN PUNITIVE EXPEDITION. THIS IS DOCUMENTED IN GODDARD’S BOOK AND BY A COLT FACTORY LETTER SHOWING IT WAS PURCHASED BY GRANGER DIRECTLY FROM COLT’S. COL ADAMS WAS A CLASSMATE AND CLOSE FRIEND OF GEN CROZIER AND PARTICIPATED IN THE TRIALS THAT ULTIMATELY LED TO THE ADOPTION OF THE COLT MODEL 1911 PISTOL. IT IS THOUGHT THAT HE CHOSE THIS PISTOL AS HE KNEW IT WAS THE MOST ADVANCED LARGE CALIBER HANDGUN OF ITS DAY. ADAMS HAD A DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND LEFT THE SERVICE AS A BRIGADIER GENERAL. HIS CLASS RING IN ON DISPLAY AT WEST POINT. THIS PISTOL IS A WONDERFUL FIND FOR US, GENERAL ADAMS RETIRED TO FRONT ROYAL VIRGINIA WHICH IS RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD FROM US AND IT POPPED OUT OF THE WOODWORK. THIS ALSO DOES COME WITH THE ACTUAL PERIOD HOLSTER THAT THE PISTOL WAS CARRIED IN BY GENERAL GRANGER. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DOCUMENTED MARTIALLY CARRIED COLT MODEL 1905 PISTOLS.
