Description

This is certainly the finest example of a U.S. Civil War used pistol that we have handled.  In antique very fine outstanding condition we have a US Martially marked 1862 production Colt Model 1860 Army Service Revolver.  This pistol is totally matching and factory original.  It has been in several important collections over the past 75 years but it is said to have been found in the Vicinity of Tom’s Brook in the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.  This is a textbook completely orthodox example of an early 3 screw Army revolver.  The grips are still clearly and strongly cartouched with the Army inspection markings  GDS (G.D. Shattuck) and the correct early left leaning style JT cartouche of John Taylor which is the correct marking for an early war production Colt.  The naval scene that is engraved on the cylinder is in very sharp condition like you just never see.  Truly this example is much nicer than you will find in most collections and even most museums and being made so early in 1862 it certainly saw some important service during the war.  Martially marked Colt revolvers from the Civil war rarely come up for offer this CORRECT, matching and sharp!!!
