I love mint crisp hardly used 80 year old guns, but once in a while we get a artifact like this one, it was well cared for but used and has some character. I have to wonder where it was carried during the war and the circumstances of its use. Did it save a G.I’s life? did it bring someone comfort on a dark night in a foxhole? Who can say; but it is one of the iconic weapons produced very early in the war by the arsenal of democracy. This is a November of 1942 production Inland manufactured M1 carbine, it is 100% factory original as issued and the bore is mint. It has the very early production features such as the checkered safety and the grooved magazine release. You will notice the very early I cut stock with the flaming bomb cartouche in the sling well. A carbine made this early would have more than likely gone straight into combat and almost all of them were used up during the war or reworked after the war. The only thing that I know for certain about this particular example was that it was a sent home right after the war by the vet who carried it and it come out of Missouri. I can well imagine that whoever carried it for so long loved it dearly and did not want to part with it. Holding this carbine just gives me a really warm feeling.
