In 98% mint sharp condition, we have a top example of the very well known and highly desirable Mauser made byf 44 dual tone finish P.38 pistol. This pistol is 100% factory original and completely matching and has a mint bore. It was at one time in the private collection of the well known dealer/collector the late Lynn Luger. Collectors call these pistols “dual tone finish” because the parts are in various combinations a mix of blued and phosphate finished parts. The color of the phosphate can range from a very light gray to a dark gray to a very greenish gray. This example has a very light gray phosphate frame and blue gray phosphate slide and a blued barrel. The hammer is phosphate finished and the take down lever is blued. You will also note the very late production mag with the ribbed follower which is correct and factory original for this gun. Lynn Luger was a noted collector and highly regarded dealer during the 1980’s and 1990’s and firearms that are associated with him are sought after as they are all exceptional examples. The dual tone variant is easily the most popular and widely collected P.38 they are quite interesting to look at the the combinations of finish are almost endless.
