In 97% condition, we have a rare 1941 dated Italian Navy Issued Model 1935 Beretta Pistol that was a War Trophy of Army Air Corps Captain Leo Antosz, who was an intelligence officer in the 454th Bombardment Group of the 15th Air Force which was stationed in Italy in 1943 and saw a lot of action. Not to different from the war as portrayed in the recent George Clooney Produced Catch-22.
This pistol is matching with a mint bore. Captain Antosz kept all the paperwork including both sets of bring back papers and all the base registration cards as he continued to serve in the post war period. In the post war era, then a Major, he was a Nazi hunter of some repute and much information can be found regarding him in the Internet. One can only speculate that he may have carried this as protection during his forays and investigations trying to track down war criminals. This pistol is interesting on many levels.
