In 97% very sharp condition we have a very early production Mauser M-1896/16 Red Nine Broomhandle pistol. The pistol still has the original matching numbered Imperial proofed stock. This pistol was produced before the introduction of the required Red 9 marking and apparently when the order went out to retroactively add the Red 9 to the grips of all pistols already in the trenches the grips were mixed up and are mis-matched. They are the correct grips but not factory original to this pistol, although everything else is matching even to include the stock. This is a commonly known occurrence on these very early pistols with frantic efforts to keep the ammunition squared up with right pistols as there were also many of the 7.63 C96 Brooms also getting muddy in the trenches at the same time. The Mauser Broomhandle pistol is one of the iconic weapons of WW1, they were tactically employed in the same fashion as sub machine guns were in WW2 and were an invaluable asset to the Germans in short range combat.
