Description

This Luger just popped up right out of the woodwork and has never been in a collection.  It was a vet bring back and has been greased up and stored for decades, absolutely  as it came back from a European Battlefield as a prized war trophy.  In 98% condition we have a pristine example of the very well known and highly sought after Luftwaffe Inspected Ku marked Luger.  This is one of the approx 5000 that were produced with the Ku suffix.  The pistol is completely matching to include the rare numbered plastic bottom fxo coded magazine.  The frame and toggle are byf 41 marked and the barrel is S/42 coded.  The bore is excellent.  This is a classic example of what collectors call the Ku Luger, with three Luftampt inspection stamps and the use of replacement parts and a blue finish that was not as well done as Mauser production.

There has been more speculation about the origin and circumstances surrounding these Lugers than any other WW2 Variant Luger.  The prevailing theory is that they were assembled in very early 1943 for the Luftwaffe out of leftover Mauser parts by an unknown contractor that the code Ku stands for.  This has been assumed to be the firm of  Adolph Kurschner – Metalwaffenfabrik in Bavaria, but this may never be definitively verified.  The only thing that we know for certain is that they were Luftwaffe Inspected and issued. We have recently been informed and have confirmed that this pistol is listed by serial number in Randall Gibson’s book on Krieghoff Lugers on page 138. So, it would seem somebody knew of its existence back in the 1970’s or 80’s and it was reported to Randall.   It was then lost to the collecting world and it has just been rediscovered by us.
