In 99% mint crisp stunning condition, we have a top example of a pre war Colt 1911a1 US Army Service Pistol. This pistol was shipped to Springfield Armory on November 21, 1941 less than a month before the Japanese Attack at Pearl Harbor. This pistol is 100% factory original; the slide is matching it has the correct Colt hollow back grips and the small G Colt marked barrel that has a mint bore. It would be very tough to find a better example. 1941 was the last year that Government pistols were made in low production numbers and they are much scarcer than the later WB and GHD inspected pistols of 1942-1945. RS inspected guns are highly sought after by collectors and they rarely show up this nice.
What makes this pistol even more meaningful is the fact that it came from the son of the Vet who carried it during the war, Army Air Corps Major Jefferis Stetson, a pilot who served in the pacific theater and after the war resumed a distinguished career as a pilot with American Airlines. A letter & bill of sale from the son is included along with a copy of an Amry Air Corps news letter from Early 1939. The Boyt 1943 dated M3 Shoulder holster is included as well. It is extremely rare to get a nice early Colt like this with any indication of what it’s actual service history was so this is a fantastic find!
