Over the years Colt made and marketed a lot of commemorative Single Action Army pistols, but almost all of them rapidly fell into a level of desirability on par with a Franklin Mint commemorative plate. There were however exceptions and here we have an example of the most sought after pistol of this Genre and one that even today is rigorously sought after, the 1973 Peacemaker Centennial 44-40 Frontier Six Shooter. This was the only pistol since the first generation Colts to bear the Legendary moniker that was engraved on the barrel of all of Colts 44-40 offerings…..Frontier Six Shooter. Those words say it all, this is the Mankiller Colt, a piece that was completely compatible with the Winchester 73 Rifle as they used the same ammunition. This gun was an exactly copy of the early six shooter with the nickel finish to retard the corrosive effects of black powder and the early “black powder frame” with the screw out cylinder release; brought back just for this model. These pistols were very tastefully cased and make a very attractive display in the den or family room
