This just came out of the woodwork, you never know what will walk into the office. Here in antique excellent condition, we have an exceptional example of a British Army marked and issued 3rd Model Brown Bess musket and a very desirable rack marked bayonet. This is the 39 inch barrel model used in the Napoleonic era. This musket pattern was adopted in 1796 but they were in use much earlier and according to the National Park Service, even saw action at Yorktown. This example was made a little later than that and would have been the standard infantry arm for the entire Napoleonic Period, including the war of 1812. This musket very well could have been at Waterloo!.
This is a museum grade example in all respects, it is textbook correct and has not been monkeyed with. It is not remotely in the same league as those Roach grade wrecks that came out of Nepal a few years back. This is believed to have been a family heirloom and may indeed be a relic from the war of 1812. There is no more famous musket than a Brown Bess and this is a prime example.
