SOLD – IMPORTANT VERY EARLY 1929 PRODUCTION 3 DIGIT COLT .38 SUPER PISTOL…..DOCUMENTED PROHIBITION HISTORY……MINT SHARP!!!

In 97% very crisp condition, we have an extremely early production serial #757 first year production Colt .38 Super Pistol.  This pistol has a mint bore and is totally factory original.  It has seen some carry use in that most of the slight wear is on the front grip strap and there are some few handling scuffs.  It,is a very sharp example that really pops!!!  This pistol has been int he collection of a local Washington D.C. area collector since the 1970’s and he acquired it from the family of a U.S. Department of the Treasury Prohibition Agent who purchased it way back in 1929.  He was at the time assigned to the Pacific Northwest and when this powerful weapon became available he was one of the first agents to obtain one, ordering it from Raymond Hardware in Raymond, Washington. According to the Colt Factory letter the Pistol was shipped out on March 21, 1929 immediately rushed out the day after it was completed and logged into the Colt ledgers.  Raymond, Washington was one of the top three destinations for Bootleggers smuggling in whisky from Canada.  It was in fact notorious for this activity.  It’s lost to History what happened to this pistol but it it along with the badge ended up in the hands of a local collector. It’s very interesting to note that among the items stored in the case is an original 1928 Thompson Submachine gun Oiler.   Today these early .38 Supers are probably the most sought after pre-war Colts on the market and this is a prime example.
