SOLD EXTREMELY RARE DOCUMENTED WW2 US PROPERTY MARKED COLT MODEL 1908 VEST POCKET .25 PISTOL

In 97% excellent condition we have an extremely rare US WW2 issued “US Property” marked and Ordnance stamped Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket Pistol in .25 acp.  This actual pistol by serial number is pictured and discussed in Pate’s book U.S. Handguns of World War II; The Secondary Pistols and Revolvers.  Very little is known about the use of these pistols during WW2, it seems that they were procured under blanket purchase orders mostly for the OSS from commercial sources such and gun stores.  After the war the remaining pistols that remained in Government inventory were inspected and marked. This is one of those pistols that has what are known to be the actual definitive Government markings  based upon known surviving pistols.  These pistols were most likely used by Agents of the OSS; especially female agents and this pistol may well have been on some highly interesting missions.  If you are going to own one of these rare pistols no better example could be obtained than one documented in a very highly regarded reference book.
