This is an extremely interesting US Army Springfield Model 1911 pistol as the serial number puts it in a group of guns that were issued to the 7th Cavalry and used by them in the pursuit of Poncho Villa after his incursion into New Mexico in 1916. In 90% condition we have a June, 1915 production Springfield Armory Model 1911 Pistol. The barrel is the correctly marked factory original Springfield Armory barrel as is the very distinctive magazine. The small parts are also “s” marked as well. You will also notice the very distinctive dull blue gray finish that these guns are known for. They certainly are not pretty looking like the 1911’s produced by Colt during the same period. The bore is decent but not mint, the gun has seen many decades of service use, and although well cared for and very tight, it does have a nice salty look to it that says ” I have been there and done that”. Springfield Armory 1911’s in nice shape such as this are not often found and this is a real prize for the serious collector.
